What is the name of your solution?

Drones technology platform for conservancy of lands

Provide a one-line summary of your solution.

This project aims to create a technological network to complete daily tasks such as surveillance, monitoring and even agricultural work.

Film your elevator pitch.

What specific problem are you solving?

Rural migration is one of the most common phenomena today and its tendency tends to increase in the coming years. This affects the productive capacity of arable land. Many parts of the world are suffering from the absence of young generations in favor of the growth of cities. This directly affects the supply chain of basic products. There is always the need to solve tasks that require a lot of effort, are beyond human capacity such as climate change or simply need to be improved.

This project targets the province of Bolívar in Peru, specifically the town of the same name, with two thousand inhabitants predominantly dedicated to working the land, with a predominant age range between 40 and 60 years. Located at 3000 meters above sea level, it has a cold, rainy climate between January and March, with rotating crops that include wheat, corn, potatoes, different beans, and large animals are raised at high altitude in communal areas.

Additionally, we found that immersion in technology is becoming an important issue related to inclusion and access to public services. A large part of the population of Bolívar maintained the same way of life for centuries until the arrival of mass technologies in the early 2000s. The telephone and television were introduced for the first time in those years, people still traveled on horseback and the electricity was not regular every day, most of the houses even today cook with firewood.

For them, technology represented an unstoppable irruption and catapulted the migration of young generations to nearby big cities.
The town is located on the descending slope of a large mountain where the water flows by gravity, there are large reserves of water but these are stressed in the drier months between June and August. Irrigation is mostly non-technified. Most of the cultural activities are still scheduled according to the lunar stage.

Technology could provide the help this community needs to regulate activities such as irrigation measurement and scheduling based on rainfall and nature reserves. It could help monitor animals at high altitudes and could even help transport materials or perform certain activities if owners are far away. The network established with the help of international cooperation and managed by a center outside the city could even help in medical care and education if the right policies are put in place.

The economic purpose pursued is the improvement of productivity.
The environmental purpose is to reinforce the first barrier in the fight against climate change
The social purpose is to increase the inslucion and access to public services

What is your solution?

In cooperation with local authorities.

We establish a monitoring center and information collection points made up of different types of drones. from the smallest to the largest that could solve specific tasks. According to the historical occurrence, the data and the main objective of the project, no fixed monitoring points are needed.

This information will be used to predict climatic variations, humidity, insolation, the presence or absence of threats, crop and animal surveillance, and even help people in need.

Tasks to be performed include opening/closing water intakes, small earthworks such as bush removal, pod removal, relocation of objects, pruning, relocation of irrigation lines, firefighting.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

They are local producers, farmers, with an age range predominantly between 40 and 60 years. engaged in farm labor and animal husbandry mainly for their own consumption.

the population is about 3 thousand inhabitants with family economy and hierarchically established.

They have a health center with basic care, basic education centers and a higher technical education center.

Bolivar is one of the most peaceful provinces in the country but also one of the most notorious for its absence from the state.

According to the authorities, the families have around $100 of monthly income. 76 years of life expectancy and an HDI of 0.3. The population density is about 8 people per square kilometer.

How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?

We are descendants of rural immigrants over the years, my family traveling long distances to finally settle in a nearby city. we still have a personal vision of life based on the beauty of nature and the environment.

We pose the problem of rural migration as one of the most dangerous due to the loss of arable land and the dramatic expansion of industrial agriculture as a counterpart.

The fight against climate change also requires an urgent response from the front line such as farmers.

Finally, we believe that inclusion is not a privilege or a duty, it is a possibility. We want to offer this possibility to people so that they can develop their skills.

Which dimension of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?

Support local economies that protect high-carbon ecosystems from development, including peatlands, mangroves, and forests.

Prototype

How many people does your solution currently serve?

it is designed to assist three thousand people

Why are you applying to Solve?

We sought to find connections, academics but also people who had experience with these types of solutions.

We want to strengthen our knowledge of the topic but also explore implementation frameworks elsewhere.

We are mainly faced with the lack of similar activities here and the low trust that this arouses even with the national authorities.

In which of the following areas do you most need partners or support?

Business model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)

Who is the Team Lead for your solution?

More About Your Solution

What makes your solution innovative?

Because this merges rural lifestyle and high technology to enhance your daily cultural activities.

this solution seeks to improve their lives, not change it

What are your impact goals for the next year and the next five years, and how will you achieve them?

This year we plan to achieve acceptance and follow-up activities.

For the next five years we hope to change daily cultural activities such as irrigation or animal surveillance. as well as the platform's own management.

Within ten more years we expect a merger and total acceptance of the activities with special immersion in education and health care.

Our main objective is to make the residents of Bolívar feel part of this global process of change.

Reinforce their self-esteem and establish the importance they have in caring for the environment and the fight against climate change

How are you measuring your progress toward your impact goals?

The project is directly linked to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

but it is also related to
9th Industry, innovation and infrastructures
10º Reduction of inequalities
11th Responsible consumption and production
12th Sustainable cities and communities
13th Action for climate change

as metrics we establish the following:
1.- Number of local authorities involved/total local authorities
2.- Number of local farmers involved/total local farmers
3.- Total area of arable land under surveillance and assistance/total area of arable land
4.- Total water sources under surveillance/total water sources identified
5.- local production index
6.- Growth of HDI, GDP and family monthly income.

Your Business Model & Funding

What is your business model?

Our business model is based on improving technological assistance, we work in the productive chain of local producers providing the technology that allows them to improve their cultural behavior, recover areas of arable land, increase their production and finally increase their income.

We want to add value to the volume of production, increasing the ways of control and monitoring of crops as well as immediate intervention in terms of irrigation, cultural tasks such as pruning and weeding.

This guarantees that the product of the producer is of the best quality with sustainable development standards and provides greater competitiveness to the local market.

We introduce technology as an added value.

We work directly with them with the support of the national authorities, but the main objective is to incorporate this project into the national administration, in terms of cost, it is demonstrably much cheaper than paying field professionals and you only need professional skills in assistance technology.

The era of technological development is coming and all sectors of society must be involved.

Do you primarily provide products or services directly to individuals, to other organizations, or to the government?

Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)

What is your plan for becoming financially sustainable?

Our plan is to work with international cooperation. By creating new routes with local markets we hope to gain acceptance and scale our model.

We also hope to have international and academic dissemination which could generate additional funds for faster scaling.

Finally, the sustainability of the project is based on being incorporated into the national administration.

Share some examples of how your plan to achieve financial sustainability has been successful so far.

The IDB provides loans for sustainable projects that could change local communities to be economically and environmentally sustainable.

We contact many international cooperation organizations interested in supporting our project if we demonstrate solid academic support that believes in its feasibility and sustainability.
