Our product is a solar still that will clean saline water, by using sunlight as the source of energy.

The problem:

one out of ten, that is 783 million people dont have excess to safe and clean water. according to who 3.4 million people die every year due to water borne diseases. these figures prove that lack of clean water is the biggest problem in the world. this is why our product targets to solve the problem of lack of clean water.

Why our solution will solve the problem:

We believe that our solution will be able to solve this problem because there are already a few models of solar still that are producing clean water in  underdeveloped areas, our solar still includes all the modifications being used in typical solar still plus some more (Pre-heating in the feed water tank,  Fresnel lens and sponges with high surface area to volume ratio) which will make our solar still even more efficient. Also, the cost to efficiency ratio of our solar still is greater than a typical solar still being used which will justify the cost of production.

Target Outcomes

Our target outcomes:

Our product will raise the standard of life, life expectancy and  decrease water borne diseases in the target areas and it decreases the pressure on non-renewable resources.

The people that will be living in hot and dry areas will be mainly benefiting from our product. Also, areas where there is a low supply of fresh water but ample amount of sunlight available.

The solar still will be provided to people by certified NGOs and government associations and as our product is compact in size as compared to other water purification technologies making it easy to deploy and ship to target areas.

How we will measure our progress:

  • Outcome: Provide fresh water to 1 million.
    Measurement Plan: count the number of family members of families using the solar still
  • Outcome: decrease water borne diseases
    Measurement Plan: record the number of incidents of disease before and after the use of our product in the areas where it will be used

Why our solution is unique:

Our solar still is the first solar still to have a pre-heating system in the feed water tank.it increases the efficiency of the solar still. It uses a Fresnel lens for heating which collects the maximum amount of sunlight for heating the water during the process of distillation. A special arrangement of sponges increases the surface for evaporation by several times. It uses a phase change material which is not present in most solar stills which helps it to operate in night time too.

How people will access our solution:

Our product will be shipped from our manufacturing warehouse, to target areas of our product. We will be selling our product to the government of target areas and different certified NGOs on subsidized rates who will further deploy these solar stills to different families in dire need of clean water.
